The NFL season is nearing, and Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals is poised to shine as a leading wide receiver. Last season, Chase ranked third in the NFL with 125 receptions and secured fourth place with 1,412 receiving yards. He was tied for 11th in receiving touchdowns, totaling eight. Chase has expressed his determination to surpass this number.
Chase stated during an interview with NFL Network, “Honestly, man, the only goal that I have for myself going forward is just to get 23 touchdowns. … I want to break the record with that.” He clarified that improving daily and enhancing his team’s performance are also key objectives.
The single-season record for receiving touchdowns is 23, set by Randy Moss in 2007 with the New England Patriots. To claim this record, Chase needs to score at least 24 touchdowns in an upcoming season. He previously achieved 17 touchdowns in 2024, marking his career-high with the Bengals.
The return of quarterback Joe Burrow strengthens Chase’s quest. Burrow, who missed part of last season due to injury, played only eight games, yet managed 17 touchdown passes. Chase will likely need several games with multiple touchdowns to break the record. Notably, he will have the advantage of an additional regular-season game compared to Moss’s record-setting 2007 season.
Following training camp and preseason games this month, Chase will begin pursuing his goal when the Bengals host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 13.
