Baseball is a sport rich in tradition, which makes unorthodox actions stand out. Mets reliever Jefry Yan is a topic of conversation for his unconventional strikeout celebration. The spectacle, comparable to a James Brown split, caught the attention of former Major League pitcher Collin Balester.

“I mean, there’s guys that teeter down that line, that do a little celebration here and there,” Balester remarked, highlighting that such displays are common in winter leagues in Mexico and Yan’s native Dominican Republic.

Balester brought up concerns about potential injuries resulting from Yan’s routine. “At the end of the day, if I was the team, I would be a little nervous about him blowing out his knee,” he noted. Yan’s act includes jumping and then executing a dramatic maneuver on the mound.

Despite these concerns, the 29-year-old Yan continues with his theatrical performance in the Majors. “I said I don’t know when this guy’s getting into the big leagues, but if he gets up there, I guarantee you he’s not going to do it,” Balester commented. However, Yan has proven otherwise, maintaining his style.
