John Brennan Subpoenaed in Justice Department Inquiry

2 weeks ago 0

John Brennan, former CIA Director, has been asked to testify before a grand jury next month in Florida. This call to appear is connected to a Justice Department investigation. The focus is on whether former law enforcement and intelligence officials plotted against President Donald Trump.

Ken Wainstein, Brennan’s attorney, revealed this information in a court document. He stated that last Thursday, prosecutors delivered a subpoena to Brennan. He is scheduled to appear on October 15 in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The investigation seeks to determine if government officials, who have been investigating Trump for the past ten years, conspired to infringe on his civil rights. According to Wainstein, a prosecutor also communicated that Brennan is a subject in another investigation based in Washington. This separate inquiry is examining whether Brennan lied to Congress in 2023. Brennan and his legal team have consistently denied these allegations.

This development occurs amid changes in the investigation’s leadership. The same day Brennan received the subpoena, Joe diGenova, the prosecutor leading the inquiry, resigned unexpectedly. The Justice Department has not announced a successor for diGenova.

In Washington, a court hearing is scheduled concerning a lawsuit filed by Brennan. He is seeking a court order to preserve all records related to the investigations. Brennan argues that these documents are essential for defending against any potential charges of vindictive prosecution.

Kurt Olsen, a member of the investigative team, spoke with Wainstein. Olsen is known for urging the Justice Department in 2020 to support Trump’s claims regarding election fraud.
