Journey’s Farewell Tour and Reflections on Steve Perry

1 month ago 0

Journey is performing on their Final Frontier Tour, expected to conclude by the end of November. Keyboardist Jonathan Cain recently shared thoughts on the band’s upcoming retirement.

Fans’ Influence on Longevity

In a conversation with the Rock & Roll High School podcast, Cain expressed his gratitude to Journey’s loyal fanbase. “I think the only reason I’m still out here is the fans, you know?” he stated. “It’s time for me to close the chapter. It’s a beautiful time to say goodbye, for me.”

Rock Hall Induction and Steve Perry

Cain also revisited Journey’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Former singer Steve Perry joined the band for the event but did not perform with them. Cain expected Perry to join the band on stage, particularly for a song. “I was certain — I would have bet money he would’ve changed his mind and come and sang ‘Lights’ with us or something, but he didn’t, which was weird,” Cain mentioned. He added that he anticipated Perry’s presence at the soundcheck, yet Perry did not appear.

Future Possibilities

While reconciliation with Perry seems unlikely, comparisons are made to bands like Oasis, suggesting unexpected reunions can happen. Despite prior rumors of Perry joining Journey’s farewell tour, fans may have to let go of the idea. However, Cain noted, “He’s always welcome on our stage any time,” indicating the possibility remains.

Journey remains an iconic name in rock, and the farewell tour marks the end of a long era. Despite unresolved issues with Perry, the band looks forward to the next phase after years of touring.
