A collision at the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp caused concern for rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen. Fortunately, initial tests indicate only a shin bruise, with no serious damage. Sources revealed this information to ESPN.
Allen wasn’t alone in facing an injury scare. His teammate, Xavier Worthy, experienced a fall during an 11-on-11 session. He landed on his shoulder after catching a deep pass near the end zone.
Worthy’s shoulder has been problematic before. Last season, he injured it during an encounter with tight end Travis Kelce against the Los Angeles Chargers. This led to an offseason surgery to repair the damage.
During a special teams drill focusing on pooch punts, Allen collided with defensive back Kaiir Elam. Although Elam walked away, Allen needed assistance to leave the field, prompting staff to cart him away.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Cyrus Allen was active during practice sessions. He’s among Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets this camp.
The Chiefs’ special teams coordinator, Dave Toub, expressed disappointment over Allen’s mishap. “I hate to see somebody get hurt, especially on a special teams drill,” he said. Toub noted Allen’s strong performance and potential to contribute this year.
Rookie contributions on special teams are essential in Toub’s view. Until they secure a primary role on the team, involvement in special teams is expected.
Allen joined the Chiefs through April’s draft as a fifth-round pick. He is quickly becoming a key player in team drills, showing promise among Kansas City’s wide receivers.
