Kathy Griffin’s Comments on Ed Sheeran and Macklemore
Comedian Kathy Griffin expressed her disapproval of singer Ed Sheeran’s handling of the situation involving Macklemore’s removal from Sheeran’s tour. The controversy arose after Gillette Stadium owner and billionaire Robert Kraft prohibited Macklemore from performing due to his ‘Free Palestine’ statements.
In a conversation with Queerty, Griffin commented on the removal of Macklemore and urged Sheeran to have defended the rapper. Macklemore’s act included pushing for ‘Free Palestine’ and performing an anti-Israel song, leading to Kraft’s decision.
Griffin’s Perspective on Free Speech and Political Statements
Griffin stated, “I wish that Ed Sheeran had not taken the advice of the ones who told him to fire Macklemore. Let’s not be listening to Robert Kraft. Sheeran should’ve resisted, citing potential performances elsewhere like Brazil.”
Griffin argued Macklemore’s comments were safeguarded by the First Amendment and showed her support for the concept of a ‘Free Palestine.’ She indicated, “I don’t think ‘Free Palestine’ is such a controversial thing to say. In my view, it’s a genuine genocide occurring there.” Griffin voiced her desire for Palestine to become its own nation, separating her opinions of Israeli leadership from the Israeli and Palestinian people.
Macklemore’s Response
After being removed from Sheeran’s tour, Macklemore announced a ‘Free Palestine Tour,’ planning performances in Dublin, Paris, and London. This move follows criticism from pro-Israel groups accusing him of endorsing antisemitism.
The Israeli-American Council (IAC) expressed support for Kraft’s decision and released a statement applauding Kraft for his stance on the matter. According to the IAC, Kraft’s actions represented moral leadership against antisemitism.
Fox News Digital sought responses from Sheeran’s and Kraft’s representatives regarding the situation.
