Keith Sonderling, who has been serving as the acting Labor Secretary, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to assume the role permanently. Sonderling has effectively managed the department during his interim tenure.
Trump’s first appointee, former GOP Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer, resigned after just over a year. Her departure followed allegations of civil rights violations and an inappropriate relationship with an employee. Chavez-DeRemer has rejected these allegations.
