2 weeks ago 0

State road officials closed an exit on the Kennedy Expressway near Jefferson Park on Saturday due to a retaining wall collapse. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced the emergency closure at the inbound Lawrence Avenue exit on the Kennedy (Interstate 90). The incident was caused by an early morning failure of the concrete retention wall.

The duration of the closure remains uncertain. IDOT is currently inspecting the damage and evaluating the necessary repairs. A statement from IDOT mentioned, “Additional information, including the scope of the repairs and the duration of any long-term closures, will be provided once the inspections are complete.”

During the closure, IDOT advises commuters to allow for extra travel time and to consider alternate routes. Drivers are urged to be cautious in work zones, keeping an eye out for workers and repair equipment.
