Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has expressed his support for Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Ken Martin, stating it would be too risky to replace him now. In an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Beshear emphasized Martin’s leadership should continue through the upcoming elections.
Beshear, who is the chair of the Democratic Governors Association, highlighted the significance of maintaining stability as elections approach. Concerns have arisen about Martin’s tenure and the DNC’s financial status. Reports indicate the DNC’s finances lag behind the Republican National Committee (RNC). The RNC holds nearly $130 million, while the DNC is $2 million in debt.
The New York Times reported an incident involving Martin throwing a phone in frustration, leading to a human resources complaint. Despite this, calls for Martin’s removal remain limited, with few Democrats urging his departure. Martin, along with supporters, defends the DNC’s progress in fundraising efforts.
Martin claimed the DNC raised $117.3 million from grassroots donors, surpassing previous records. Beshear’s remarks suggest that Martin’s role is likely secure until the midterm elections, with future pressures uncertain post-November.
