A Kentucky middle school teacher faces criminal charges due to allegations involving a student. Authorities claim the conduct crossed from inappropriate to criminal.
Sadie M. Flores, 25, from Mayfield, was arrested and charged with grooming a minor, a Class D felony in Kentucky. This charge comes just weeks after the law’s enactment on July 15.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office reported that Flores, a teacher at Graves County Middle School, allegedly maintained an improper relationship with a minor student within the district.
The allegations were initially reported to Graves County Schools, leading to a criminal investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Detectives seized electronic records and conducted interviews, resulting in Flores’s arrest.
Flores was detained and then moved to an out-of-county facility. Sheriff Jon Hayden noted the investigation is ongoing.
Graves County Schools Superintendent Matt Madding stated that district leaders contacted law enforcement immediately after learning of the allegations. Madding emphasized that student safety remains a top priority.
The grooming charge is based on new legislation aimed at preventing adults from establishing inappropriate relationships with minors before sexual abuse occurs.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the alleged relationship or the student’s age. The investigation may lead to additional charges.
