Key Players Shine as PGA Tour Hosts FedEx Cup Fall Series

1 week ago 0

The briefest off-season in professional sports concluded last week with the start of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Fall series at the Biltmore Championship. After a three-week pause, the tournament has returned to much anticipation. Meanwhile, the DP World Tour unfolded a remarkable leaderboard at the BMW PGA Championship.

Two notable players celebrated victories in these tournaments, both with connections to the U.S. Presidents Cup team, though in different roles. JJ Spaun emerged as a standout at the BMW PGA Championship in England. Despite being passed over for the U.S. Presidents Cup team, Spaun delivered an impressive final round to secure a victory.

“I played with a huge chip on my shoulder,” Spaun stated after his win. “Being left off the Presidents Cup team a couple of weeks ago was very disappointing, and I wanted to prove that I deserved to be on that team.”

Spaun’s final round 67 bested well-known contenders like Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott. His triumph is notable considering his recent challenges, including a withdrawal from the Tour Championship due to a shoulder injury.

The impending Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club in Illinois has the U.S. team as favorites. However, questions about Spaun’s omission might arise if the current picks falter during the event.

Jacob Bridgeman, another player shaping up well this season, will represent the U.S. at Medinah. Bridgeman, who finished 12th in the team standings, recently clinched victory at the Biltmore Championship. Earlier performances, like his ninth place at the BMW Championship, underscore his strong form.

With 12 Top 25 finishes in 2026 and only one missed cut, Bridgeman’s consistency is noteworthy. He’s now ranked 20th globally and leads in strokes gained: putting. While the spotlight may fall on others like Scottie Scheffler, Bridgeman’s strong game makes him a key player to watch at the Presidents Cup.

Medinah offers a unique stage for Bridgeman to showcase his skills and personality. The event is a pivotal opportunity for upcoming talents in American golf.
