L.A. County Deputies Respond to Dog Attack in Lancaster

L.A. County sheriff’s deputies shot a pit bull during an attack on a man in Lancaster. This happened on Monday morning on the 43200 block of 20th Street West, as confirmed by authorities.

At 9:53 a.m., deputies reacted to a 911 call regarding the incident. Upon arrival, they found the pit bull attacking a man lying in a front yard. The yard was fenced and had a locked gate. Despite efforts to stop the attack with verbal commands, the dog did not respond. The deputy then fired at the animal, stopping the attack.

The dog was declared dead on the scene, and the man was taken to a local hospital. He was reported in stable condition by Monday evening. The pit bull belonged to a family member residing with the victim, as noted by the police. The reasons behind the attack remain under investigation.

L.A. County Animal Control took possession of the dog’s body. Lancaster Station Capt. Paul Bartlett commended the deputies for their swift actions. “They faced a life-threatening situation and acted quickly to save the man’s life,” Bartlett stated.

“After stopping the attack, they immediately provided lifesaving medical care until firefighters arrived,”

said Bartlett.

In a similar incident last July, a man died after pit bulls attacked him in Lancaster. In that case, a deputy also shot a dog to allow paramedics to reach the victim, who died in the hospital later.
