Lane Kiffin will make his head coaching debut with the LSU Tigers on Saturday. The team will go up against the visiting Clemson Tigers in Baton Rouge.
Last season, Kiffin drew attention by leaving his position with the Ole Miss Rebels just before their College Football Playoff run. He took on the head coaching role with LSU.
Fans are eager to see if Kiffin and his No. 11 ranked Tigers can live up to the expectations.
According to ESPN’s Marty Smith, the matchup between LSU and Clemson on Saturday will be the most media and celebrity-credentialed game in LSU’s history.
“LSU Football officials confirm to ESPN that Saturday’s season-opening home game against Clemson is the most media/celebrity-credentialed game in Tiger Stadium history,” Smith reported on Wednesday morning. “Lane Kiffin’s debut gonna be a wild scene in Death Valley. (2026 marks LSU’s 102nd season in Tiger Stadium).”
The game offers additional intrigue due to remarks by Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney. During a press conference on Tuesday, Swinney commented on LSU’s recruitment tactics.
“It’s kind of embarrassing,” Swinney said about LSU pursuing NFL players, as reported by On3 Sports. “Honestly, it’s embarrassing that’s where we are. I don’t blame the kids, but people trying to take advantage of the system. It’s embarrassing, but we’ve been there for a while.”
No pun intended but we’re just going to stay in our lane.
The eagerly awaited game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.
