Lauren Boebert Responds to House Ethics Complaint Allegations

2 weeks ago 0

Colorado U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert responded strongly to allegations made in a complaint filed with the House Ethics Committee. The complaint alleged that Boebert had sexual relations with members of her staff. In an email to Newsweek, a spokesperson from Boebert’s office firmly dismissed these claims: “Congresswoman Lauren Boebert rejects these allegations as utterly false and there is no truth to them whatsoever.”

The spokesperson labeled the complaint a politically motivated effort aiming to manipulate ethics processes and generate sensational headlines. The complaint, filed on September 17 by David Wheeler, a journalist and activist, included accusations that Boebert paid $200,000 in hush money to a staff member.

“Ms. Boebert runs her classic denial scheme learned straight out of the swamp and carried out by her minions,” Wheeler stated in defense of his complaint.

Boebert, a mother of four, finalized her divorce from Jayson Boebert in 2023, citing irreconcilable differences. Her personal life garnered significant media attention following her son’s arrest in August for multiple felony counts.

Wheeler criticized Boebert for her alleged history of misconduct, claiming her denials were part of a broader pattern. He asserted that Boebert deflected issues by attacking the accuser and was not accountable for her actions.

Wheeler’s claims included allegations of affairs and substance abuse by Boebert, backed by public records. “The US House Ethics Committee has investigative and subpoena power. All allegations will be proven with bank statements, text messages, emails, recordings, and witness testimony,” he stated.

Although Newsweek has not verified Wheeler’s allegations, he emphasized the impending investigation process by the Ethics Committee. Filing a complaint does not immediately trigger an investigation or confirm misconduct. The committee first assesses if the complaint fulfills procedural criteria before deciding on further steps. Wheeler has specifically requested the formation of an investigative subcommittee.

Wheeler also cited past legal interactions between himself and Boebert, including a 2022 lawsuit settled in 2024 and a dismissed protection order. Boebert has denied claims of improper relationships, including allegations regarding former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz.
