According to reports from Alex Schiffer of Front Office Sports, most NBA teams, aside from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors, are likely out of the running. Schiffer notes, “Multiple Western Conference executives suggest James might choose the Warriors over the Cavaliers for his 24th NBA season.” While Cleveland remains a favorite in prediction markets—with prominent sports analyst Bill Simmons stating the move was a ‘done deal’—there is belief among some executives that Golden State remains a legitimate contender.

Despite another league source favoring a Cavaliers reunion, the general consensus among executives polled by Front Office Sports leans toward James deciding between the Warriors and Cavaliers.

James, who hails from Akron, Ohio, was the first overall pick by the Cavaliers in the 2003 NBA Draft. He left Cleveland in a high-profile decision in 2010, joining the Miami Heat where he secured successive NBA titles in 2012 and 2013 along with two MVP titles. James returned to the Cavaliers in 2014 and led them to victory against the Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, overturning a 3-1 series deficit.

In 2018, James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, winning a championship in 2020. Announcing his departure on June 30, James thanked the Lakers publicly, expressing his honor for playing in the iconic team colors.
