Meta’s Threads Surpasses 500 Million Monthly Users

1 hour ago 0

After Elon Musk acquired Twitter and renamed it X in 2022, Meta launched a competing social network called Threads. The platform quickly became the fastest application to achieve 100 million sign-ups, surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Despite a shift in focus towards artificial intelligence within Silicon Valley, including Meta, Threads continued to grow. Meta recently announced that Threads has reached 500 million monthly users, matching the popularity of Musk’s X.

Threads has evolved to resemble platforms like Reddit and X. Users are drawn to communities rather than news feeds, discussing topics such as television shows, gaming, celebrity gossip, and current events. Popular subjects include K-pop, W.N.B.A., dating, books, and television series like “Heated Rivalry.”

Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, has supported Threads by positioning it as a conversational hub where news and politics are important but not central. Features include sections for communities, badges for top contributors, and customizable algorithms.

Connor Hayes, head of Threads, stated the platform’s growth follows a principle of “following the intent of users.” Threads aims to reach one billion users. This goal would surpass Snapchat’s current user base of 956 million as noted in financial records.
