Mike D, former member of the iconic Beastie Boys, will release his debut solo album, Thank You, on August 28. This marks the first solo album from a Beastie Boys member since their 2011 album, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this release due to the long interval.
The album promises to deliver a unique sound. According to a statement shared with Newsweek, Thank You comprises “a dozen servings of sonically inventive post-electronic grooves and hypnotic hooks.” It emphasizes Mike D’s distinctive voice, guiding listeners through a diverse auditory experience that challenges traditional labels.
Alongside the album announcement, Mike D has unveiled a visualizer for the track “True Colors,” which is now available for streaming. The creation of the album began with “experimental recording sessions” at Mike D’s home studio. Initially, he collaborated with his sons, Skyler and Davis, before involving additional contributors to the album.
The album’s artwork is notable for its vivid style, created by Can Can Press, Thad Higa, and Charles Deroyan. In a statement about his new project, Mike D expressed joy in collaborating with loved ones and hoped the music would be enjoyable and not too serious. He acknowledged the challenging global context of releasing art but emphasized the importance of maintaining empathy and compassion.
Mike D’s efforts in music are significant for continuing the legacy of the Beastie Boys, with familial support adding a heartening dimension to his journey.
