Mike Rogers Calls for End to Iran War and Diesel Export Embargo

1 week ago 0

Former Rep. Mike Rogers, a Republican from Michigan and a U.S. Senate candidate endorsed by former President Donald Trump, has highlighted the financial difficulties many Americans face. In a video posted on social media, he emphasized that the war with Iran must end swiftly. He also urged for a diesel export embargo until the conflict concludes.

Rogers remarked, “Michigan families are struggling with the price of everyday life. Groceries cost too much. We have to bring prices down. The war with Iran needs to end, and end quickly. When it does, energy costs will plummet. But Michigan families can’t afford to wait for that to happen.” He reiterated his earlier stance on suspending the state and federal gas tax amounting to 70 cents per gallon. The state’s motor fuel tax, which applies to both gasoline and diesel, is 52.4 cents per gallon. Federal taxes include an excise tax of 18.3 cents per gallon on gasoline and 24.3 cents per gallon on diesel fuel, in addition to a Leaking Underground Storage Tank fee of 0.1 cents per gallon on both fuels, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Rogers noted, “Diesel fuels the trucks that bring groceries to this store. It fuels the tractors that grow our food. And when diesel costs more, it costs more to grow it, ship it, stock it, and ultimately, buy it. So until this war is over, I’m calling for a temporary embargo on American diesel exports.”

Rogers is running against Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan U.S. Senate race. The political competition intensified with El-Sayed criticizing Rogers in a social media post, accusing him of supporting the Iran war. Former Rep. Justin Amash also commented on Rogers’ recent statements, questioning the sudden change in Rogers’ stance on the conflict.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) reported a national average diesel price of $6.5276 as of September 22, indicating the financial burden felt by American consumers. Fox News Digital attempted to reach out to Rogers’ campaign for further comments.
