Mike Tomlin, who has led the Pittsburgh Steelers for many years, has transitioned into a new role as an NFL analyst for NBC Sports. As part of his duties, he shared his thoughts on the Steelers’ upcoming game against the Atlanta Falcons.
After observing the Patriots’ and Seahawks’ season opener, Tomlin commented on Atlanta’s quarterback situation. His focus was on Tua Tagovailoa. “It’s less about Aaron [Rodgers] for me, and it’s more about the quarterback on the other side [Tua Tagovailoa]. His last visit to Pittsburgh didn’t go well. I was in the stadium that day. They lost. He got benched,” said Tomlin.
Tagovailoa faced challenges during his last game in Pittsburgh while playing for the Miami Dolphins. During that match, he recorded 253 passing yards, secured two touchdowns, and made one interception, resulting in a 28-15 defeat against the Steelers. His performance led to being benched for the rest of the season, with Quinn Ewers taking over.
“It’s not something that I take for granted,” Tagovailoa stated earlier this week. “There’s a lot of things I think I could have done better. Turned the ball over, could have played better. My decision making … in terms of last year just wasn’t good.”
The Falcons and Steelers are set to face off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. Tagovailoa sees this as an opportunity to improve and prove his capabilities as a starting quarterback for Atlanta.
