An autism center in Minnesota, operated by a friend of Democratic Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan, is facing fraud investigations and has prompted criticism of Flanagan on social media. The Milestone Development Center, run by Nimco Ahmed, along with the Spectrum Therapy Center, has come under scrutiny, as reported by Alpha News and confirmed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS).
The DHS spokesperson stated, “These agencies are on our radar.” Due to open investigations, details cannot be disclosed. However, both agencies had previously been terminated from Medicaid programs because they did not meet the necessary state and federal compliance, according to Revalidate 2026 procedures.
Peggy Flanagan, Minnesota’s Lieutenant Governor and Senate candidate, appeared in a viral video on Somali TV alongside Ahmed, expressing support for the local Somali community, saying, “The Somali community is part of the fabric of the state of Minnesota.” Ahmed has been a longtime activist in Minnesota’s Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party and her relationship with Flanagan spans nearly 25 years.
Criticism of Flanagan has intensified following the investigation, with voices on social media questioning her role in addressing the fraud scandal. Former Milestone therapist Grant Morgan reported ineffective treatment practices during his tenure, such as the absence of qualified professionals and potential billing fraud. He observed unqualified personnel and noted the lack of documentation required for Medicaid billing.
In response to allegations, Nimco Ahmed has denied accusations of lacking oversight and compliance, insisting that the investigation is influenced by bias due to her Somali background. She maintains that all children at her center have autism diagnoses and asserts adherence to state standards.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Milestone Development Center and Andrew Mark Miller contributed to this report. Further insights and responses from involved parties are awaited.
