Netflix has announced a new documentary titled Untold: Wide Deceiver, focusing on Daejon Love, a 35-year-old con artist. Love defrauded women of over $1.3 million by impersonating a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. The documentary will explore the details of Love’s deception and include interviews with his victims.

An FBI affidavit details how Love created a fake NFL persona. He used custom helmets and prop money to carry out the scheme. Investigators allege Love, along with his 18-year-old accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan, targeted women using dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge across California, Oregon, and Washington.

Love went to great lengths to support his false identity. He staged fake workouts and filmed himself running routes on public beaches in a replica 49ers helmet. In a video, he even faked a contract signing, showcasing team gear to bolster his claims. Despite his efforts, the team and the NFL state he was never employed by either.

In August, the FBI arrested both Love and Chan at an airport in Boise, Idaho. Love faces charges of federal conspiracy and wire fraud, with victims identified in multiple states. His defense included using a fabricated excuse of an injured finger to explain his absence from the active roster.

Love also created an Instagram account featuring 49ers gear and luxury items. He pressured victims into high-interest loans for fake investments, claiming high returns. However, none of this money was invested. Instead, Love spent it on lavish items to maintain his illusion of wealth.

When victims exhausted their funds or questioned financial matters, Love severed all contact. He currently pleads not guilty and is held without bail, awaiting a federal trial on December 15.
