New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is set to receive an honor at the Tunnel to Towers’ annual gala later this year. This recognition highlights his ongoing contribution to the organization, which dates back a decade.
Tunnel to Towers, established in 2001, supports 9/11 first responders, veterans, and their families. The organization provides mortgage-free smart homes to disabled servicemen and housing for homeless veterans. Johnson began his philanthropy with them in 2014 with a $1 million donation to their Building for America’s Bravest program.

Recently, Johnson and the organization surprised Command Sergeant Major William “Bud” McElroy with a mortgage-free smart home. Speaking about Tunnel to Towers, Johnson remarked, “Their work serves as a reminder of the need to honor heroes who have sacrificed for our country. Being recognized by such a group is a privilege.”
Frank Siller, Tunnel to Towers Chairman and CEO, expressed gratitude for Johnson’s unwavering support, noting that, “Thanks to Woody, his family, and the Betty Wood Johnson Foundation, six catastrophically injured veterans now live in specially adapted homes, and first responder families are keeping their homes.”
Siller added, “Woody Johnson has consistently supported our families without seeking anything in return, much like my brother Stephen, who selflessly helped those in need. This makes him deserving of the Follow the Footsteps Award, which we will present at the gala in December.”
The gala recognizing Johnson’s contributions will occur in December.
Previously, Johnson served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom during the Trump administration and is a founding trustee of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
