North Carolina Doctor Charged in Road Rage Shooting on Interstate

A North Carolina doctor, Dr. Richard Thomas Arriviello, was arrested following a road rage incident on Interstate 77 where he allegedly shot into a Jeep, injuring two sisters, aged 12 and 20. This incident occurred on August 22, near the North Carolina-Virginia state line.

According to Virginia State Police, Arriviello, 61, was driving a Mercedes-Benz when he allegedly fired at the moving vehicle, striking both sisters in their legs. Despite their injuries, they were airlifted to a hospital, where their injuries were treated and not deemed life-threatening.

“TESLA ROAD RAGE DRIVER SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS IN PRISON AFTER ATTACKING MOTHER AND DAUGHTER IN HAWAII,” read another incident headline, highlighting the seriousness of road rage issues.

After the shooting, Arriviello fled the scene but was apprehended about 15 miles away, according to troopers. He is currently facing multiple felony charges, including malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle and causing bodily harm with intent to maim. He also faces a charge of using a firearm while committing a felony.

Authorities have not disclosed details about what might have led to the road rage incident or whether the firearm used was recovered. The Jeep’s driver was cited for reckless driving, though their identity remains confidential.

Arriviello is held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail, and his court appearance is scheduled for September 29.

Dr. Arriviello has been a licensed emergency medicine physician in North Carolina since 2010. Records show he owns Family Urgent Care in Monroe and has no recorded disciplinary actions against his medical license.
