Oklahoma has dismissed true freshman wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers from the football program, team officials confirmed Thursday. The announcement comes just days before the team’s matchup against Texas in the Red River Rivalry in Dallas.
The university has not disclosed any reasons for Rogers’ departure, and he has been removed from the team’s roster.
Following the news, former Oklahoma player and Sooner Radio Network analyst Gabe Ikard posted on X, stating, “If you don’t treat the people that pour into the program with the respect they deserve… then there’s not a place for you at Oklahoma.”
Coach Brent Venables, known for his strict program standards, has been clear about the culture he aims to build in Norman. He has consistently enforced these standards since taking leadership of the team.
Jahsiear Rogers was a four-star recruit from Appoquinimink High School in Wilmington, Delaware. Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 180 pounds, Rogers chose Oklahoma over other prominent programs such as Alabama, Nebraska, and Penn State. In the spring game, he caught five passes for 70 yards.
During the first month of the 2026 season, Rogers played just six offensive snaps without any catches. His minimal impact on the team’s current depth is unlikely to affect the upcoming game against Texas significantly.
Coach Venables sends a clear message: adherence to the program’s standards is non-negotiable.
