The Oklahoma Voice is known for providing original and objective reporting. Their focus is on assessing the intersection of policy, impact, and power. Recently, a telling moment occurred during the vetting process of a new law. A lawmaker was asked a rather unexpected question: Did he prefer jump-roping or playing four square during recess?

Oklahoma legislators have enacted a controversial new requirement. Public schools must now increase students’ recess time from 20 to 40 minutes each day. This decision has led to mixed reactions across schools, businesses, and families. Many feel it is akin to children playing in the mud on the playground, facing challenges and concerns over its implementation.
