Olivia Rodrigo surprised attendees at the Daisy Chain Fields festival with an unexpected guest and a remarkable fundraising achievement. The festival, held in Irvine, California, raised $10 million for various women-focused nonprofits. In a stunning turn of events, Rodrigo announced that Melinda French Gates would match every donation, effectively doubling the contribution to a total of $20 million.

Before her performance, Rodrigo expressed gratitude for the acts who performed for free. She emphasized the importance of empowering women to shape their futures and live healthy, violence-free lives. Rodrigo praised Gates as an inspiring figure dedicated to championing women and girls.

Joining Rodrigo on stage, Gates commended the singer’s efforts and underscored the collective power of women and girls to effect change. Gates highlighted that the festival’s impact would continue as organizations benefit from the funds raised. Her presence, along with her pledge to double the donations, brought the total raised to $20 million.

Rodrigo revealed her inspiration came from Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair, driving her creation of the Daisy Chain Fields. Gates, formerly married to Microsoft founder Bill Gates, noted the ongoing efforts of organizations supported by the festival.

During a press conference, Rodrigo shared details of the funds raised for specific nonprofits including Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Center for Reproductive Rights, and others. Her dedication to women’s causes earned praise from Garbage singer Shirley Manson, who performed a medley of hits.

The festival featured performances from Chappell Roan, Garbage, Doechii, Not For Radio, and others. Although Katseye had to cancel due to a member’s injury, Devon Again stepped in. Doechii delivered a striking performance covered in hot pink paint.

Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morissette, and Sarah McLachlan joined Rodrigo on stage for duets. Rodrigo acknowledged McLachlan’s Lilith Fair as the inspiration behind Daisy Chain Fields, highlighting the festival’s focus on empowering women and girls.
