Operation Rotten Apple: Federal Efforts in New York

1 month ago 0

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Markwayne Mullin, announced the successful efforts of Operation Rotten Apple in New York. According to Mullin, thousands deemed public safety threats have been arrested during this initiative.

Mullin criticized New York’s leadership, targeting Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. He accused them of obstructing law enforcement efforts. Mullin stated, “Operation Rotten Apple was necessary because the city’s liberal, socialist mayor cut NYPD’s budget by $22 million and refused federal cooperation. Over 2,100 of the worst criminals were removed from our streets statewide in the last 30 days.”

Mullin highlighted cases involving foreign nationals with violent backgrounds. One was a 39-year-old Indian national with an INTERPOL red notice for alleged rape in Germany. Another was a 50-year-old Ukrainian citizen with convictions for kidnapping and murder.

The DHS Secretary blamed these individuals’ presence on New York’s sanctuary policies. “While sanctuary states protect illegal immigrants, the Trump administration and ICE work every day to safeguard Americans,” Mullin said.

Mullin criticized New York politicians for releasing over 13,000 illegal immigrants and urged them to stop obstructing DHS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Discussing New York City’s leadership, Mullin pointed out Mayor Mamdani’s stance against ICE operations. Mullin questioned if removing criminals from the streets is not in the public’s safety interest. He mentioned the city’s budget cuts as contradictory to public safety.

Mullin expressed disappointment with Hochul ending 287(g) agreements, which foster cooperation between local police and federal agents. He noted, “Seven of the safest cities cooperate with ICE and the 287(g) program.”

He applauded sheriffs who resist political interference and emphasized restoration of law and order is a bipartisan public concern.

The DHS Secretary revealed the federal government is prepared to send additional agents to New York and other cities defying federal policy. “Because local leadership won’t cooperate, we’ll send necessary personnel to restore order. President Trump is committed to this effort alongside ICE,” Mullin declared.

Fox News Digital reached out to the offices of Hochul, Mamdani, DHS, and ICE for comments.
