In what was a remarkable turn of events, Oregon showcased an impressive recovery following their surprising defeat against Oklahoma State. Last weekend, they dominated Portland State, delivering an overwhelming 84-0 victory. Dante Moore demonstrated precision on the field, successfully completing 19 of his 23 pass attempts for 280 yards, bringing home four touchdowns without any interceptions. Complimenting his performance, Dylan Raiola entered the game and achieved perfection, completing all 11 of his passes for 124 yards and notching up three touchdowns, with no interceptions. Together, the Ducks’ offense amassed a total of 453 yards.
However, the Ducks faced unfortunate news in Eugene. Head Coach Dan Lanning announced on Monday night that Jeremiah McClellan, a junior wide receiver, sustained a broken foot and will be sidelined indefinitely. The injury reportedly occurred during pregame warmups prior to the Portland State clash, and McClellan was seen wearing a walking boot on his right foot.
McClellan, who hails from St. Louis, Missouri, was a highly sought-after four-star recruit, committing to Oregon in December 2023 over more than 40 prominent college football programs. Initially, he saw limited action during his freshman year in 2024 but emerged as a leading target for Moore last season, ranking third in team receiving yards with 557, and recording 38 receptions. His contributions fell just behind receiver Malik Benson and tight end Kenyon Sadiq, both now pursuing careers in the NFL. McClellan’s efforts positioned him as a key player, anticipated to excel this year. Despite performing well in the early season, with seven catches accumulating 170 yards and scoring one touchdown, his junior year may now be prematurely concluded.
The injury comes at a challenging time for the Ducks, especially as they prepare for a formidable matchup against Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This Big Ten face-off pits two ranked teams against each other, each aspiring for a place in the College Football Playoff. Moore will now have the added pressure of guiding Oregon without one of his standout receivers.
