3 days ago 0

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore was taken off the field after a late hit during a game against USC at the Coliseum. This incident occurred on Saturday and led to USC’s linebacker, Desman Stephens II, being suspended for one game.

Stephens tackled Moore during a run play when Moore slid too late to avoid contact. Stephens continued with the hit, directly impacting Moore’s head with his shoulder. The encounter triggered a strong reaction among Oregon fans and players, as Stephens smiled and celebrated on the sidelines despite Moore’s injury requiring medical attention.

Despite being ejected for targeting, new NCAA rules allowed Stephens to stay on the sideline and encourage his team. Oregon’s coach, Dan Lanning, condemned the hit and called it “disgusting.” USC coach Lincoln Riley, alongside Lanning, stated they missed Stephens’ reaction after the play.

Riley issued a statement affirming that Stephens’ behavior was unacceptable. Riley explained that such actions do not represent USC Football or Stephens’ character. He mentioned that Stephens will face consequences by missing the next game against Washington and expressed well wishes for Moore’s recovery.

USC also released an apology from Stephens, who expressed deep regret over his actions. Stephens acknowledged the seriousness of the injury and took full responsibility, stating that his actions were inappropriate and not representative of his values or the team’s culture.

There is still no official update from Oregon regarding Moore’s condition. Reports from CBS Sports indicated he had a concussion, while another source confirmed he was cleared to travel back to Eugene with the team.

The incident has sparked reactions and discussions within the sports community, highlighting the importance of player safety and appropriate conduct during games.
