Mahomes Shines in Season Opener Against Broncos

Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, made a strong comeback following a serious knee injury sustained nine months earlier. During the team’s first offensive drive against the Denver Broncos, Mahomes scored a touchdown with an impressive 15-yard run.

This performance suggests the top NFL quarterback is ready for the 2026 season, displaying no fear of being tackled and proving his ability to effectively maneuver through defenses.

“He’s baaaack!”

This moment set the tone for the season and indicated Mahomes’ confidence after the rehabilitation of his knee.

Rehabilitation and Comeback Preparation

Mahomes is wearing a brace on his left knee but anticipates removing it later in the season. He suffered tears in both the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and lateral collateral ligament (LCL) during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14, 2025. The next day, Mahomes had surgery in Dallas, following a plan that prioritized quick surgery to avoid further inflammation.

His recovery involved a rigorous rehabilitation schedule, including strength and conditioning sessions totaling seven hours each day. Mahomes chose to stay in Kansas City for continuous work with the Chiefs’ staff, rather than returning to Texas for offseason workouts.

After methodically progressing through rehabilitation, team meetings, and training camp, Mahomes was cleared to play without limitations for the season opener. His touchdown run against the Broncos served as assurance of his fitness and readiness.

The Chiefs are hopeful for a successful season with Mahomes at the helm, as his performance is crucial to the team’s ambitions.
