Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. He is dealing with a superficial blood clot in his calf, which has required treatment for nearly a week.
The Eagles issued a statement on Thursday about Hurts’ medical condition. They detailed his treatment timeline and announced his absence from the upcoming game.
On Thursday, October 8th, Jalen visited the training room after practice for calf treatment. He reported being cleated during the Rams game on October 4th. This was his first session following full practices on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Jalen received treatment, practiced fully, and was noted on the practice report.

Hurts had an ultrasound after the team’s flight to London. The test showed a superficial blood clot. Both Eagles’ medical staff and doctors in London suggested that Jalen could continue playing safely. A follow-up ultrasound was recommended within 72 hours of the game and upon returning to Philadelphia.
Jalen Hurts played last Sunday’s game, practiced fully throughout the week, and received treatment on Monday and Tuesday. However, a follow-up ultrasound on Wednesday night indicated movement in the blood clot. Consequently, Jalen is sidelined for Sunday’s match against the Panthers while the team assesses further treatment. His health remains the team’s top priority.
Blood clots can lead to dangerous conditions, such as pulmonary embolism, stroke, or heart attack. They can also cause tissue damage or become fatal if not treated swiftly.
The Eagles reported Hurts’ condition to the league, underscoring the situation’s gravity. While Hurts will not play in Week 6, his status for future games remains unclear.
Following Sunday’s game against the Panthers, the Eagles face their division rivals – the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants – in successive matches.
Tanner McKee, a third-year veteran, is set to replace Hurts as the starting quarterback against the Panthers. McKee has started two games in his career, leading the team to one win and one loss.
