Authorities in Northern California are examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a 40-year-old executive from the New York Times. The individual, Jonathan McKinsey, was fatally shot by his in-laws in a parking lot over the weekend, as confirmed by officials.

McKinsey, residing in Dublin, California, was discovered by officers in the parking lot. He had sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. McKinsey served as the director of engineering for New York Times Games, a position he held for over three years.

According to a police news release, a Dublin police sergeant, who was driving near a local sports complex on Saturday afternoon, spotted a man lying on the ground in the parking lot. This man was later identified as McKinsey. Several witnesses were present in the vicinity at the time of the incident, as reported by local news outlets.

While the sergeant began investigating, police dispatchers received multiple 911 calls related to the incident. Witness Kevin Stein from Dublin expressed disbelief at the audacity of the act, commenting to KTVU-TV about the public nature of the shooting.

The alleged perpetrators of the shooting were identified as McKinsey’s in-laws, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen. Both, aged 77, are from Dublin. They were apprehended nearby on suspicion of murder and are currently held at Santa Rita Jail. Police assert there are no additional suspects involved, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

The Dublin Sports Grounds were temporarily closed during the investigation but have since reopened to the public. The inquiry into the shooting and the events leading to it continues.
