Potential Preseason Cuts for the Chicago Bears

3 weeks ago 0

As the NFL preseason begins, teams are preparing their rosters for the upcoming season. The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers are set to play the Hall of Fame Game on August 6, marking the start of preseason action. The official kickoff for Week 1 of the preseason is on August 13. The regular season will begin with a Super Bowl LX rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots on September 9, during “Sunday Night Football.”

With the excitement building, attention turns to players at risk of being cut as teams finalize their rosters. This week, the focus is on the Chicago Bears.

Roschon Johnson, Running Back

Once seen as a key player for the Bears, Roschon Johnson’s position looks uncertain. In 2024, he rushed for 352 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie. However, last season he played only seven games and had just two carries. Kyle Monangai, as a rookie, rushed for 783 yards and five touchdowns. Additionally, the signing of Salvon Ahmed early in the offseason complicates Johnson’s future. He may need to find a new team by August.

Scotty Miller, Wide Receiver

The depth at wide receiver led to the trade of D.J. Moore to the Buffalo Bills. Now, Luther Burden III and Rome Odunze lead the receiver group. With Kalif Raymond as a free agent signee and rookie Zavion Thomas making an impression in the draft, Scotty Miller’s position is in jeopardy. Initially a depth signing, Miller risks being moved down the lineup and possibly released.

Jaylon Jones, Cornerback

The Bears boast strong options in Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, and Tyrique Stevenson at cornerback, with fourth-round rookie Malik Muhammad showing promise. The team also has several other corners, including Jaylon Jones, Josh Blackwell, KC Eziomume, Dallis Flowers, Cam Lewis, Dontae Manning, and Terrell Smith. At 29 years old, Jones may face release to allow younger players more opportunities.
