Prada’s New Collection Revamps Basics with Leather and Tech Fabrics

Prada’s Latest Fashion Offering

During Milan Fashion Week, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons showcased a collection that reimagines everyday basics by incorporating leather and innovative fabrics inspired by jeans. The aim is to deliver men’s fashion designs suitable for everyday life, not just fashion enthusiasts.

The Modern Uniform

The upcoming spring and summer collection introduces a fresh uniform featuring tailored, short jackets and five-pocket trousers. These are paired with timeless blazers or leather bomber jackets. Despite jeans being the inspiration, Prada has never worn them, while Simons recently returned to them after years of wearing wool pants.

Against expectations, the five-pocket trousers combined with flat-pocket jackets redefine Prada’s new look. Crafted from luxurious, soft leather in shades like antique white, gray, burgundy, and turquoise, these outfits debuted amidst guitar riffs. A select group of pieces featured technical fabric, perfectly suited for Europe’s current heatwave. Only a few final looks used genuine denim.

Accessories and Styling

Geometric patterns adorned short shirts and knit vests, complemented by contrasting silk scarves tied around the waist. The collection featured colorful fanny packs fastened at the hips with thick belts. Velcro strap pointy shoes completed the ensembles.

Street Style Connection

Prada emphasized designing universal pieces while avoiding “useless design,” an issue prevalent in other collections. Simons highlighted the desire to reconnect fashion with real-world dressing, noting that many fashion innovations historically stem from street style rather than luxury brands and runways.

He described the collection as having a clear, vertical, simple, sharp silhouette imbued with white’s peaceful and purifying quality. The aim is to challenge perceptions of typical luxury fashion.

Exhibition and Celebrity Appearances

The minimalist display featured transparent bench seating, ensuring front-row visibility for all attendees. VIPs included NBA star Anthony Edwards, singer-actor Troye Sivan, K-pop group ENHYPEN, and British actor Louis Partridge.

Despite early summer heat, fans enthusiastically gathered to catch a glimpse of their favorite celebrities.
