President Donald Trump intensified his criticism of Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed recently. He labeled the progressive nominee as deceitful and accused Democrats of aligning with communist principles.
Trump’s remarks arose after the narrow victory of El-Sayed over Rep. Haley Stevens in the Michigan Senate primary. The Associated Press confirmed El-Sayed’s win by a slim margin. He is set to compete against Republican Mike Rogers for the seat currently held by retiring Senator Gary Peters.
During a speech in Las Vegas, Trump targeted socialist candidates, claiming they promote communist ideas. He argued that communism poses the largest threat to the United States, surpassing historical challenges like World Wars, Pearl Harbor, and 9/11.
“These people are dangerous,” Trump stated. “Communism is the greatest threat to our country.”
The White House supported this viewpoint on social media, affirming communism as the nation’s primary threat.
Trump mocked hypothetical communist policies, suggesting they would involve taking possessions from individuals to distribute them unjustly. He warned of dire consequences such as poverty and chaos.
Referring to Venezuela, Trump cited its decline as evidence of communism’s impact, attributing it to crime and destruction. He specifically called out El-Sayed, drawing significant audience reactions.
El-Sayed’s success in the primary introduces a progressive voice to the Senate race, backed by Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. El-Sayed supports policies such as Medicare for All and reducing political money influence. Although distancing himself from the Democratic Socialists of America, Republicans have linked him to a broader socialist movement.
Trump reiterated his stance against socialism, recalling his State of the Union commitment to prevent America from adopting socialist governance. He accused Democrats of pushing beyond socialism into communism.
“They want it to be a communist country,” Trump proclaimed. “We’re not letting them have it.”
He vowed to combat what he described as the Democratic Party’s shift leftward. The White House and El-Sayed’s campaign did not respond to requests for comments from Fox News Digital.
