Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have moved their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to a new school in the United Kingdom. This decision came just two days after the children started classes when their security team raised concerns about the school commute.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to transfer Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, from their initial school due to safety concerns related to the school run. A spokesperson for the Sussex family informed Newsweek that the decision followed discussions with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements.
The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.’
According to HELLO! Magazine, factors such as heavy traffic and the distance between the school and the family’s home added to the concerns. Sources close to the couple mentioned that Archie and Lilibet enjoyed their first two days at the new school, engaging with classmates and parents. However, logistical challenges during the daily commute proved difficult for the family’s security team.
An incident where security vehicles could not remain together raised questions about managing the school run securely. Subsequently, Archie and Lilibet attended a taster session at another nearby school. Prince Harry was seen settling Lilibet into reception, while the Sussexes were added to parents’ WhatsApp groups, as reported by HELLO!
Prince Harry’s Long-Running UK Security Challenges
Security remains a major ongoing concern for Prince Harry in the UK. When Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties in 2020, they lost automatic police protection. Harry challenged this decision in court, citing risks to his family during UK visits.
He lost his Court of Appeal challenge in May 2025. Harry’s return to the UK with Meghan and their children has reignited discussions about revisiting his security arrangements. Previously, Harry expressed discomfort bringing his family to the UK without adequate security, and this issue now affects their daily lives rather than just short-term visits.
Meghan Markle’s Security Assessment
As the school move coincides with Meghan’s first government-backed security review, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) is assessing the couple’s current circumstances. Harry is undergoing a separate risk assessment, and the couple has submitted information about their schedules and routines.
These reviews might consider the family’s day-to-day arrangements, including how Archie and Lilibet commute to school. British authorities are reassessing the couple’s security just as the school change occurs.
Harry and Meghan’s Return to the UK
The Sussexes announced their extended stay in the UK in August, bringing Archie and Lilibet, who have spent most of their lives in the United States. Their return has drawn interest in how they will maintain privacy while managing daily life in Britain.
The family has remained private about their reasons for relocation while their team seeks to maintain privacy around their home and school. Their return has brought renewed attention to their connection with the royal family and their status in the UK.
Earlier this month, King Charles III’s office reiterated that Harry and Meghan remain non-working royals, with their HRH titles still in abeyance. The statement also directed operational security queries to relevant police authorities.
