Rahm Emanuel, the former mayor of Chicago and White House chief of staff, is considering a 2028 presidential bid. He visited Israel this week, bringing a controversial message to Tel Aviv. Emanuel argues for an end to the U.S.’s unconditional support of Israel.
In an upcoming speech, he plans to urge Israel to implement significant changes to maintain the historic strength of U.S. backing. Emanuel emphasizes the need for Israel to reconsider Palestinian sovereignty and abandon the goal of annexing the entire West Bank.
He criticizes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that his leadership has left Israel isolated. Emanuel suggests that Netanyahu relies too heavily on military solutions. According to him, strategic isolation is not sustainable for security and likens it to a ‘countdown clock.’
With dwindling support for Israel in the United States, particularly among Democrats, Emanuel seeks a middle ground between anti-Israel and pro-Israel factions.
