Rapinoe and Kanter Freedom Clash Over WNBA Incident

1 month ago 0

Megan Rapinoe’s podcast Why Are You Like This? featured the former USWNT star discussing an incident involving Enes Kanter Freedom at a WNBA game. Kanter Freedom was removed from a match between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever after a confrontation with Chicago’s Natasha Cloud.

The altercation occurred in the third quarter when Cloud scored a basket that led to a Fever timeout. She directed her emotions at Kanter Freedom, who was sitting near the basket. Security intervened as Kanter Freedom approached her. Chicago Sky officials later explained that he was perceived as a threat, resulting in his ejection and barring from Wintrust Arena.

Freedom told OutKick that Cloud allegedly made a provocative remark about Fever player Sophie Cunningham, a figure of controversy over comments on keeping biological men out of women’s sports. Freedom insists he was at the game to protect and support women’s sports and not to pursue Cunningham.

Rapinoe responded critically, mocking Freedom’s claim of protecting women. On her podcast, she implied that Freedom and others like him pose a threat to women’s sports by showing up at events and creating disruption.

“He later continued the grift, claiming protection for women,” Rapinoe remarked sarcastically.

Rapinoe highlighted how those against biological men in women’s sports could be regarded as bad-faith actors. She emphasized the importance of female athletes uniting against such discrimination, noting that the popularity of women’s sports has grown alongside increase in opposition.

She concluded with a strong statement against the involvement of men in women’s leagues, emphasizing the independence and success of women’s sports.

Kanter Freedom maintains his stance as pro-women, stating he is not against transgender or LGBTQ communities but supports women’s rights.
