Recap of the Latest Episode of HBO’s House of the Dragon

2 weeks ago 0

This article is a recap of the most recent episode of HBO’s House of the Dragon. Beware, spoilers ahead. The episode opens with the aftermath of last week’s Butcher’s Ball, where Criston Cole lies dead, marked by an arrow.

The Tapestry and House Targaryen

A black dragon against a red field appears on a tapestry. This is unusual, as House Targaryen’s sigil is the opposite. The presence of the sigil remains a mystery, as the Blackfyre Rebellion is years away.

Harrenhal: Alicent and Alys Rivers

The action moves to Harrenhal. Aemond, recovering, practices swordsmanship. Alicent reveals herself, though under disguise. Alys Rivers, posing as Alicent, makes a seductive approach, which Aemond rejects. Alicent, later appearing, leads Aemond outside to meet Ser Adrian Redfort.

The plot thickens when Aemond kills Redfort, suspecting treason. Dinner becomes tense when Alicent questions Alys about her intentions toward Aemond. Aemond then announces his plans to make Harrenhal the new capital.

Chaos in The Vale

Daemon visits The Vale, seeking answers about Rhaena and Sheepstealer. Lady Jeyne Arryn dismisses her lover to speak with Daemon. Rumors of a wild dragonrider circulate. Meanwhile, Rhaena’s involvement with her dragon draws concern.

A chaotic scene unfolds as Rhaenyra and Addam arrive on dragons. They confront Rhaena, and amidst the chaos, Sheepstealer is attacked by multiple dragons. Rhaenyra takes Rhaena back to King’s Landing.

Return to House Blackwood’s Camp

Larys, Aegon, and Tyland travel from Rook’s Rest to Maidenpool. Larys vanishes, leaving Aegon to face Rhaenyra’s army alone. However, Sunfyre, Aegon’s dragon, appears, scattering the enemy forces.

King’s Landing: Visions and Deceptions

In the Red Keep, Helaena dreams of a gray mare and more ominous visions. Rhaenyra pressures Helaena to share details about her dreams, particularly those concerning Aegon and Aemond.

At the Small Council, tensions simmer. Torrhen Manderly realizes his appointment is strategic puppet manipulation. Mysaria, aware of her weakening position, attempts to drive a wedge between Daemon and Rhaenyra.

Helaena’s dreams become more vivid, showing her atop her dragon, Dreamfyre, amidst chaos.

Tumbleton’s Unfolding Plans

The Black army, carrying Criston Cole’s head, approaches Tumbleton. Ormund Hightower has captured Corlys Velaryon to leverage trouble for the Blacks. Privately, Gwayne and Daeron see Ormund’s plans as foolish.

In a plot twist, Ormund sways Ulf, a Black dragonrider, to the Green side. The promise of territory convinces Ulf to betray his allies.

Reflections on the Episode

The episode is rich with development and intrigue, setting up for the season finale. Emma D’Arcy delivers a compelling portrayal as Rhaenyra under pressure. The dense plot provides a riveting follow-up to previous episodes, though questions about Daemon’s actions with Sheepstealer linger.
