The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has undergone significant changes, diminishing its workforce considerably. As of July 23, 2026, the current staffing level is slightly more than half of what it was when President Donald Trump resumed office.
According to recent information provided to Congress, since June 1, around 200 employees have left the office due to firings and reassignments. This reduction has not been fully visible to the public until now.
During a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on July 15, the director-nominee, Jay Clayton, addressed these changes as he testified. The hearing highlighted the magnitude of staffing adjustments and their potential impact on the operations within the intelligence community.
