Renovations Underway in Washington, DC: Reflecting Pool and White House South Lawn

2 weeks ago 0

An aerial photograph taken from a commercial plane descending into Washington, DC, has highlighted several significant renovation projects currently underway in the city.

Captured on June 16, the image shows the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool with visible algae, the White House South Lawn looking damaged after a UFC event, and a mysterious covering on the National Mall displaying the numbers “8647.” This latter discovery has prompted an investigation by the U.S. Park Police.

The Department of the Interior recently completed work on the Reflecting Pool. Despite efforts to refresh it, the pool remains algae-green, contrasting with the “American Flag Blue” that was selected by former President Donald Trump in preparation for the 250th anniversary. Work continues to address this, with workers seen applying hydrogen peroxide to reduce algae as of June 17. However, parts of the pool still show green patches.

In addition, restoration is taking place on the South Lawn of the White House. Following a UFC event on June 14, the White House revealed plans on June 16 for ScottsMiracle-Gro, collaborating with the National Park Service, to restore the lawn. The company has pledged $1 million to support this initiative.

Efforts are also focused on resolving issues at the National Mall due to discoloration and a political message. USA TODAY is seeking further details from the National Park Service related to these repairs.
