Rescuers Search for Missing Woman in Calumet River Incident

Rescuers are actively searching for a missing woman following a vehicle accident in the Riverdale neighborhood of Chicago. The incident occurred when a vehicle lost control and plunged into the Calumet River around 2:30 a.m.

According to Chicago police, the accident took place in the 13000 block of South Indiana Avenue. The vehicle struck a barrier before entering the water. Five adults were inside the vehicle, and all but one managed to exit and reach safety.

The Chicago Police Department Marine Unit successfully rescued a man, who was then transported to UChicago Medicine in serious condition. As of 7 a.m., authorities were still searching for the missing woman.

The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the accident. Additional details are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
