RFK Jr. Launches ‘The Real Food Show’
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., serving as the Secretary of Health and Human Services, has introduced a new cooking program, ‘The Real Food Show.’ The series features celebrity chef Andrew Gruel and is designed to advocate for healthy eating habits. This aligns with Kennedy’s mission to tackle chronic health issues in the U.S. through nutrition education.
A-Rod’s Changing Diet After Baseball
Former Major League Baseball All-Star Alex Rodriguez, commonly known as A-Rod, shared his post-retirement eating habits. His diet has significantly changed since his baseball days.
During his 25-year career, Rodriguez consumed large quantities of food, including six meals a day filled with steak, potatoes, rice, and beans. He explained to Men’s Health that the high-calorie intake supported his grueling 162-game season.
A Peek Inside A-Rod’s Kitchen
Rodriguez, now 51, consumes a variety of foods with healthy choices balanced by indulgent snacks. Key items in his fridge include:
- Abundant water (including some sparkling)
- Eggs and spring lettuce mix
- Fruits like bananas, apples, and oranges
- Always fresh, organic blueberries and strawberries
- Hummus for late-night snacking
While he has soft drinks available for guests, Rodriguez quit drinking them himself five years ago.
Rodriguez’s Eating Habits Post-MLB
The former athlete’s daily meals comprise three to four meals with occasional protein shakes. He avoids liver in his diet and generally starts the day with eggs, oatmeal, bacon, orange juice, and water.
Lunch often features salad with balsamic vinaigrette and protein such as chicken or fish. For dinner, he favors steak or salmon with fries, noting his preference for sweet potato versions. Humorously, he admits to not cooking to avoid accidental mishaps in the kitchen.
Reflections on Past and Present Diet
Reflecting on his MLB years, Rodriguez noted he often overate due to the energy demands. Now, he believes he might not eat enough, especially lacking in proteins and fruits.
His favorite pregame meal was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich paired with barbecue chips and water. For celebratory meals, he chose between steak, sweet potatoes, or sushi.
Rodriguez’s favorite comfort foods are rooted in his Dominican heritage, including rice and beans, plátanos maduros (sweet plantains), and tostones (crispy green plantains).
Additional Preferences and Habits
A-Rod enjoys coffee extensively, drinking up to eight cups daily. Before workouts, he opts for a Celsius energy drink and also incorporates protein shakes infused with fruit, peanut butter, and supplements such as vitamin C, a multivitamin, and magnesium for sleep.
At ballparks, his snack of choice is a Dodger Dog, and he appreciates pretzels when they’re fresh and warm.
The ‘A-Rod special,’ a quirky affection, involves a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with deli turkey. It highlights his unique culinary preferences post-baseball career.
