According to Gaines, jealousy among other players contributes to the abuse Clark experiences on the court. She also points out the inconsistencies in how different athletes are treated.
During a game against the Golden State Valkyries at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, a heated moment arose. Caitlin Clark expressed frustration towards an official after a no-call incident where she felt fouled by Golden State’s Kiah Stokes. Despite her intense reaction, including swearing at the referee, Clark avoided receiving a technical foul.
Earlier, during the same game, Clark had limited success. By halftime, she recorded only two points and had a couple of rebounds and assists. Her play was restricted by a minutes limitation plan from her coach, Stephanie White, as she recovers from an injury. An apparent limp sent her briefly to the locker room, but she returned to support her team before the half ended.

Pre-game queries about managing her public life were met with resilience from Clark. She acknowledged the mixed reception, stating, “There’s gonna be people that love you, there’s gonna be people that hate you. It probably means you’re doing something right.” She emphasized the importance of having thick skin and assured that opposing opinions would not impact her life dramatically.
Despite returning strong in the second half, the Indiana Fever lost to the Valkyries 88-75, marking a season low in points and dropping to a 14-10 record. Clark ended the game with 13 points, six assists, and three rebounds over 26 minutes. Her shooting challenges persisted, hitting only 1-for-8 from three-point range and struggling at 15.8 percent across her last three games.
