RNC and GOP Leaders Sue New Jersey Over Voter Roll Records

1 week ago 0

Republican National Committee (RNC) and state GOP leaders have filed a lawsuit in New Jersey. They target the state’s chief election official and authorities in five counties. The lawsuit alleges failure to produce federally mandated voter roll maintenance records. The RNC seeks transparency for voters.

RNC Chairman Joe Gruters stated the issue involves noncitizens on New Jersey’s voter rolls. He criticized election officials for hiding vital records. According to Gruters, the RNC will not tolerate this lack of transparency.

The legal action highlights incomplete documentation by New Jersey’s chief election official and counties like Bergen, Hudson, Middlesex, Somerset, and Union. Federal law requires these documents to be public.

Gruters stated, “Garden State voters deserve the truth, and we’re taking these left-wing officials to court to demand answers.” This follows earlier reports in June about noncitizens on the voter registries. Migrants seeking naturalization had self-reported as noncitizens but were found to have voted in past elections.

Legal notices from the RNC had sought an explanation and specific records. They contend that withheld documents are crucial for ensuring election integrity.

The issue of noncitizens registered to vote overlaps with investigations into jury duty evasion. Some residents were found to claim non-citizenship yet appeared on voter rolls.

The lawsuit is part of the RNC’s nationwide election integrity efforts. They have requested similar voter roll maintenance documents from 48 states. These actions aim to preserve clean voter registries across the nation.

In New Jersey, previous RNC actions included lawsuits against the Secretary of State over alleged unlawful voting practices.

Co-plaintiffs in the current lawsuit include Rep. Tom Kean Jr. and New Jersey Senate Republican Leader Anthony Bucco. They demand complete transparency following New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s acknowledgment of illegal voter registrations.

Rep. Tom Kean Jr. emphasized, “New Jerseyans deserve complete transparency following Gov. Sherrill’s admission that over 6,600 noncitizens were added to our voter rolls. Fair elections require total public accountability.” This legal challenge seeks the immediate release of voter roll records to ensure public truth.
