Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. attended a Cabinet meeting at the White House on May 27, 2026. Meanwhile, a significant shift in entertainment occurred. For over 50 years, Lorne Michaels defined satirical commentary with ‘Saturday Night Live,’ which premiered in 1975. His unique approach to mocking news events set a standard. However, Donald Trump’s presidency introduced unprecedented and humorous material that even Michaels struggled to surpass.

The Trump era introduced unexpected scenarios, such as the Oval Office’s gold decor and the controversial decision-making process leading America into complex conflicts. Moreover, Kennedy himself added a surprising twist by launching a cooking show on HBO. While the White House supported the idea, it baffled many.

In a promotional video, Kennedy opened with, “Hi, I’m Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., your HHS Secretary. Welcome to the Real Food Show…Let’s get cooking.” The first episode featured chef Andrew Gruel, focusing on promoting seafood consumption, particularly wild Alaska salmon cakes made for under $5 per serving using canned salmon.

However, the video revealed Kennedy’s lack of culinary experience. Throughout the show, he either watched Gruel cook or performed basic tasks like stirring ingredients. When he spoke, his comments were confusing and lacked clarity, such as his vague mention of “flipping the food pyramid” and conflicting messages about beef prices versus seafood consumption.

Critics questioned Kennedy’s priorities, given pressing health concerns. Recent issues included 2,371 reported measles cases, a recall of 1.6 million dozen eggs due to salmonella, a Cyclospora outbreak from shredded lettuce, and rising COVID-19 cases in 41 states. These challenges seemed to require more attention than Kennedy’s culinary debut.

Additionally, his controversial past raised doubts about his credibility in offering food advice. Stories surfaced of his unusual habits, including attempts to process roadkill and bizarre culinary experiments. His cousin, Caroline Kennedy, and his daughter recalled unusual incidents, complicating his public perception.

The future frequency and format of Kennedy’s cooking show remain uncertain, but many hope this initial episode remains the only one. Given his crucial role, focusing on urgent health matters seems more appropriate. Meanwhile, experienced chefs like Ina Garten on the Food Network continue to provide reliable cooking guidance for the public.
