Former NBA player Royce White discussed the recent removal of Enes Kanter Freedom from a WNBA game. White appeared on ‘Don’t @ Me w/ Dan Dakich’ to comment on the incident involving Freedom and Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
The confrontation occurred during the Indiana Fever’s 113-90 victory over the Sky. During a stoppage in the third quarter, Cloud yelled towards Freedom, who was seated courtside. Freedom responded by moving closer to the court, prompting security to remove him from the arena.
White expressed his belief that the WNBA would likely take further action against Freedom. ‘I know how the business and PR operate. They’ll claim he instigated a conflict with a player, violating the line between spectators and players,’ White stated. He predicted that the league might indefinitely suspend or ban Freedom from WNBA events.
Freedom provided his account of the altercation to Fox News Digital, explaining that he was celebrating a three-pointer by Sophie Cunningham when Cloud verbally confronted him. According to Freedom, Cloud made comments insinuating a romantic interest, which he denied.
Freedom noted that Cloud used strong language in their exchange, which he found inappropriate given the presence of young fans. He reiterated his intent to support women’s sports and protect female athletes.
Both Freedom and White declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft, challenging the league’s eligibility policies. They aim to prompt the WNBA to clarify its definition of ‘women’ and address standards for transgender athletes. The current collective bargaining agreement states that only women can play, without specifying transgender athlete eligibility.
