Russia Strikes Kyiv with Ballistic Missiles

2 weeks ago 0

Early Thursday, Russia launched a significant ballistic missile attack on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital. Ukrainian officials reported multiple explosions across the city.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to seek shelter as the city was rocked by blasts. A witness cited by Reuters confirmed hearing numerous explosions. The Ukrainian Air Force indicated that Russia specifically targeted the capital with ballistic missiles.

STRIKES SINCE MAY

An explosion illuminated the sky over Kyiv during the attack. These strikes marked one of the deadliest assaults since May.

Mayor Klitschko later reported that several non-residential areas caught fire following the missile strikes. Currently, there are no immediate reports of casualties.

The attack follows a warning from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He cautioned of a likely major assault overnight, pointing out that Russia had prepared a massive attack days before.

President Zelenskyy emphasized the crucial role of international partners in defending lives. He highlighted the dependency on their readiness to provide air defense support, particularly with Patriot missiles.

Zelenskyy discussed the situation after a recent visit to the United States. He met with President Donald Trump, who announced at the NATO summit in Turkey the U.S. decision to license Ukraine to manufacture Patriot air defense systems.

“This primarily involves the United States and partners who have available Patriot missiles to assist our defense,” Zelenskyy wrote. He stressed that each partner knows what is needed and the consequences of delaying aid.
