Russian Attacks in Ukraine Result in Heavy Casualties

According to officials, Russian attacks in Ukraine resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals and left dozens wounded. The regions of Dnipropetrovsk in the east and Lviv in the west experienced the most significant casualties. These attacks come as part of a series of large-scale strikes that have intensified over the summer, now happening nearly every week.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Kyiv and surrounding areas, including Dnipro, Lviv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Ivano-Frankivsk, were targeted. Over 70 missiles were used, a notable portion being ballistic, along with more than 280 attack drones. Ukrainian forces managed to intercept over 260 of these drones, showcasing their high level of professionalism despite a critical shortage of air defense missiles from allies. Zelenskyy emphasized that safeguarding against Russian missile threats is essential for protecting lives and reiterated his appeal to allies for additional anti-ballistic missiles.

During the attacks, Poland reportedly scrambled fighter jets, as per Reuters. Polish police discovered a crater and debris in a field after an unidentified object disappeared from army radar during the Russian strikes.

In Dnipropetrovsk, a mass attack resulted in six fatalities and injured ten others, affecting civilian infrastructure. Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the regional military administration, confirmed the deaths included children aged 6, 11, and 17, along with their parents, as stated by Zelenskyy.

Meanwhile, in the Poltava region, adjacent to Dnipropetrovsk, a drone strike targeted private enterprise warehouses, leading to a fatality, according to regional head Vitalii Diakivnych. A delivery hub was also attacked but the subsequent fire was quickly controlled, preventing additional injuries.

In Lviv, injuries escalated to 30 following missile strikes, with a rescue operation ongoing, as per regional military administration head Maksym Kozytskyi. The city faced severe damage to residential areas, a school, and two kindergartens, injuring children, one of whom required hospitalization.

The capital, Kyiv, experienced ballistic missile strikes, resulting in the death of a 31-year-old man and injuring two others, affecting residential and commercial areas. In the nearby Brovary district, five people, including a minor, were wounded.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed strikes targeted air bases, arms factories, and military facilities in Kyiv, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Vinnytsia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Additionally, attacks hit a ship in Pivdennyi port and two ships near Odesa.

In Russia, air defenses reportedly downed 258 Ukrainian drones. A depot belonging to Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, caught fire after being struck by a Ukrainian drone, leading to an evacuation of 200 workers.
