The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported an ongoing outbreak of salmonella linked to jalapeños. These are served at several restaurant chains. The outbreak now affects 27 states. The jalapeños, distributed by California-based Coast Citrus Distributors, were imported from Mexico. They were served at Chipotle, Qdoba, and various other eateries.
So far, 36 people have been hospitalized. Fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities. To ensure customer safety, Chipotle removed jalapeños from its menu ‘out of an abundance of caution.’ Following suit, Qdoba also ‘proactively removed jalapeños from all our restaurants,’ they stated on Wednesday.
The CDC confirms that neither restaurant chain currently poses a risk. This is because the contaminated jalapeños are no longer available.
